about

Eighth movement, introducing oxygen. Oxygen has eight protons and electrons. Two are at a lower energy state than the other six, so the introductory notes are of two lower notes. If oxygen were not bonded to anything, its native electron configuration would dictate that there are two more electrons of a higher state than the first two, but the remaining four electrons are at an even higher state than all the others. If you listen to the woodwind notes at the beginning, there are two notes, followed by two higher, followed by four even higher. This patter repeats throughout. Oxygen is a most dear and precious life giving element. The second part of the piece is an ode to the thin blue line of oxygen that protects our planet and to the value of protecting our fresh air.
